She dared me to write a poem about Love

She dared me to write a poem about Love

She threw down the gauntlet,
and dared me to write,
a poem about Love, but
she said, "Keep it light !"
So I answered this challenge,
and wrote, with a flair;
"Of course love is light,
why it’s mostly hot air!"
I know we’ve all said,
Love’s a pain in the ass!
So how do we know that
those pains aren’t just gas!
Expanding when heated,
love contracts when its cold,
it could be a virus,
catching both young and old.
For love can’t be eaten,
or captured and bottled,
it can’t be corralled, or
be held back and throttled.
And love might come fast,
then be gone like the wind,
even feel so damned good,
that you don’t know you’ve sinned!
It’s hazy, transparent,
yet love has no real weight.
Not animal, mineral
Or vegetable state.
Love can not be held,
but it holds on real tight;
It’s one of those things
that go bump in the night.
of course you can’t see it,
for it stays out of sight,
but in a heart’s darkness,
love will bring forth its "Light!"
